What a year!\u00a0 Wherever you are right now and wherever you\u2019ve spent the last 18 months, it\u2019s been one heck of a ride as the world navigates this pandemic that continues to surprise us.\u00a0 One thing we\u2019ve all learned is not to try and predict anything at this point.\u00a0 \u00a0So how can you plan to move to China?\u00a0 There are a whole bunch of new challenges, so I\u2019ve narrowed it to nine essential things to know as you plan to make the journey.<\/p>\n

Please bear in mind that this article was written June 13, 2021.\u00a0 Information is constantly changing, so please double check everything in here regarding deadlines, requirements, and other things, especially as they relate to visa requirements and arrival information even if it\u2019s just a week after the date.<\/p>\n

The one thing I assure you that you can count on is that what is true one day will change the next as this virus and government restrictions evolve.\u00a0 \u00a0So, for today, here\u2019s what we can tell you.\u00a0 Some information is specific to ENREACH, but most things are universal:<\/p>\n

There are a lot of details that go into each of these steps and anyone who accepts a position will get in-depth instructions, and of course, we welcome any and all questions about the process.<\/p>\n

The last few visas I saw issued from US consulates, were done so in a week or two, only slightly longer than normal.\u00a0 However, it has become more challenging in the last few months and very few visa applications are getting through right now.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Two things will help speed up the process \u2013 one is the ease of getting PU letters from China, which we expect to open up soon, and two is the consulates becoming less restrictive with visas.<\/p>\n

My best guess is that this summer visas will start being issued again, though the process will be slower than normal given the backlog of those waiting.\u00a0 Again, nothing is a given, but that\u2019s my guess as of today.<\/p>\n

Some challenges to consider how you might navigate are food restrictions, as you often don\u2019t have a choice in meal selection, laundry (you won\u2019t have access to it), and entertainment, though luckily most people in 2021 have access to plenty of movies, music, and exercise videos.\u00a0 You will have wifi, electricity, and all the basic amenities of a hotel room, though note coffee and tea will not be refreshed, nor will your bed be made up daily, so it\u2019ll be more like home and you\u2019ll have to do that.<\/p>\n
